For the first time in almost 11 months, Dak Prescott will take the field with the Dallas Cowboys and line up under center against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night.
It’s been a long time coming for the 28-year-old quarterback, who played in just five games in 2020. In Week 5 against the New York Giants, he suffered a compound fracture and a dislocated right ankle which forced him to miss the rest of the season.
Over the summer, it looked like Prescott would be all systems go come September, but a minor shoulder strain sidetracked his training camp. After a few weeks off, he finally got back onto the practice field in late August and began to take reps with the first team once again.
It’s been a long and winding road for Prescott, but he’ll be under center on Thursday against the Buccaneers. Cowboys fans can’t wait to see their leader back out on the field.

Although Cowboys fans are excited to see their franchise player in the line up, no one is more eager to see Prescott on the field than the quarterback himself.
“I’m ready. I’m definitely ready. I’m excited. I’ve put a lot of work in to get to this point,” the 28-year-old told reporters last week, per Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.
Prescott is the engine that keeps the Cowboys going and his absence was certainly felt last year. Dallas stumbled along to a 6-10 record due to inconsistent quarterback play and a sputtering offense. With their franchise player back under center, the Cowboys can be a competitive team in the NFC East, but if he can’t stay healthy, the team is in trouble.
The Buccaneers are a tough match-up for Prescott in his first game back in the NFL. Tampa Bay’s swarming defense and tenacious front seven will give the Cowboys quarterback and offensive line all they can handle when the two teams go toe-to-toe Thursday.
Prescott will make his highly anticipated return tonight at 8:20 p.m. ET in Tampa Bay. The game is set to air on NBC.
