Dan Quinn has added another former NFL player to his new staff.
Interestingly enough, only four weeks ago, it was announced that Gay was going to be a member of the Texas Longhorns coaching staff, serving as their defensive backs analyst.
Gay played his college ball at Louisville and was subsequently drafted by the Steelers in the fifth round of the 2007 draft. In the NFL, his initial five seasons were with the Steelers (2007-11).
Gay then became a member of the Arizona Cardinals for the 2012 season, starting 15 of the 16 games while intercepting two passes and recovering three fumbles.
The former Cardinal defensive back then returned to the Steelers for his final five NFL seasons (2013-17). In six of his ten seasons with the Steelers, Pittsburgh was the divisional champ, including the 2008 season when the Steelers were Super Bowl champions. Two years later, in the 2010 season, the Steelers were again AFC champions before losing to the Packers in the Super Bowl.
In his 2014 season the Steelers defensive back not only intercepted three passes, he also had the distinction of leading the NFL in touchdowns via interception, as he returned all three for scores.
Starting 101 of his 176 career NFL games, Gay intercepted 13 passes, returning five for touchdowns, while forcing 10 fumbles and recovering three.
In 2020, Gay’s college head coach, Bobby Petrino, hired him to serve as the defensive backs coach at Missouri State.
