Game Time: No. 2 Maryland vs No. 3 Notre Dame Sweet Sixteen Preview

March 26, 2023 by Maryland Sports Blog

A “Chance Meeting” between Maryland and Notre Dame who will get to the elite eight?

The momentum for No. 2-seed Maryland women’s basketball is high after a hard-fought victory over No. 7-seed Arizona in the round of 32.

Maryland had a lot of positives and negatives in the previous game. When it counted collectively as a team Maryland had all hands on deck.

The Keys To Victory!

Both teams have worked hard to get to this point!

Since the offseason, many questioned what the Maryland Terrapins would look like this season after the transfer portal affected the team. To see where the team is now really speaking to everyone being brought in from players to the coaching staff.

The fighting Irish, Notre Dame has been a good ACC team. Under head coach Niele Ivey, Notre Dame only had three conference losses, and a good tournament run.

Do You Remember?

The last time these teams faced each other was Dec. 1 on the road and, Miller hit a buzzer-beater off one leg to take down the Fighting Irish, 74-72. Do you remember that? Ironically, a week later the same thing happened on the road against Purdue this time it was who? Shyanne Sellers! Notre Dame did their best to stay in the game however, was not enough.

Embrace this Moment!

With the exception of Miller, Sellers, and Masonius. This Maryland team has a roster that has never gotten to experience this moment such as Alexander, Briggs, Pinzan, and Kubek along with the freshmen. This is a golden moment for everyone to cherish, and soak in with one goal in mind sacrifice and compete for a national title.

Nathan’s Keys

  1. Without Olivia Miles, Sonia Citron is the focal point of the offense
  2. Maryland must not fall into foul trouble early
  3. Look for Diamond Miller to get the others going early
  4. Expect the freshmen to get minutes
  5. Other than Miller, Briggs, and Alexanders the others have to step up
  6. Notre Dame is a gritty team that will make you earn bucket
  7. Utilize the zone press early against Notre Dame

The winner of the game goes on the elite eight and faces the winner of South Carolina or UCLA.

Prediction Score: Maryland (81) Notre Dame (71) GUARANTEE
