How far will the Washington Commanders receipts fall?

July 21, 2022 by Redskins Wire

Does it take a really big fall to make one realize how far they have fallen?

Kevin Sheehan on his Wednesday podcast, discussed with guest Sportico’s Kurt Badenhousen the incredible growth of NFL revenue. Yet, the Washington Commanders are showing widely decreasing numbers.

Badenhousen recently wrote of how healthy the NFL as a whole is compiling their 32 franchises. The NFL saw $345 million dollars become the total of the shared revenue–astonishing. This is the result of the NFL accumulating roughly $18 billion dollars for 2021.

In fact, with the new media deals that are going to come into effect soon, the NFL looks to be able to reach $25 billion dollars soon for a single NFL season. The NFL continues to overwhelmingly be the largest draw on all of American television.

Exclusive from @sportico on NFL’s internal gate revenue report: Raiders on top at $119M, Lions last at $51M.

— Kurt Badenhausen (@kbadenhausen) July 19, 2022

For the 2021 NFL season, Washington in net-ticket revenue ranked 31st in the NFL. Only the Detroit Lions brought in less. The Jaguars were immediately ahead of Washington at 30th, and the Cardinals were at 29th.

When contemplating how Washington games were attended in a previous generation, contrasted with the 2021 season,  Badenhausen referred to it as “mind-numbing to me.”

“To see where the franchise is now…every year we think the franchise has hit rock-bottom. Yet it keeps dropping further… Sponsors are fed up with what is going on now too.”

Badenhausen could not have been more clear, stating “the team needs to figure out how to move forward.” He then stated, “it is a mess.” It would appear every single NFL Washington fan on Twitter is aware of what needs to transpire for this once-great NFL franchise to move forward.

Yet, the NFL owners seem to be unwilling to admit it and help the DMV fan base move forward to where they will once again want to support their NFL franchise.

Even worse, the home crowds for Washington continue to get smaller and smaller, as the fans are overtaken by the visiting teams fans. So the reality is even more gloomy for this franchise.

How much darker, remains to be seen. Especially when you consider if Daniel Snyder continues to be the owner, how much revenue would the franchise have to lose before NFL owners and Commissioner Roger Goodell become involved?

Follow the money…
