UNC men’s basketball is playing for the national championship on Monday, and the program’s most famous alumnus–Michael Jordan–could be in attendance.
However, Hubert Davis, the Tar Heels’ head coach, is wishing MJ could do more than just show up and hang out as a fan.
Davis joked with reporters today that he would like for Jordan to play in the matchup against Kansas.
Hubert Davis on Michael Jordan potentially showing up on Monday night for UNC’s title game: “I’d like him to play. That’d be great. I don’t just want him to show up. I’d like him to play.”

Interestingly, if you believe in superstition, Jordan being at the Superdome tomorrow might not be a good thing for UNC. His Airness attended the team’s 2016 title game loss to Villanova, but was not present at the Tar Heels’ win over Gonzaga the following year.
We’ll see if Jordan actually makes it to New Orleans on Monday. One guy who is already there and will be able to play is UNC big man Armando Bacot, who rolled his ankle late in last night’s win over Duke.
“You’d have to cut my right leg off for me to not play,” Bacot told reporters this afternoon.
UNC and Kansas will tip off at 9:20 p.m. ET on TBS.
