The 2022 NFL Draft doesn’t have a clear top quarterback prospect, and not many teams that are obvious candidates to take one in the first round.
But NFL insider Ian Rapoport is willing to hazard a guess as to how many quarterbacks will hear their names called early. Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show, Rapoport predicted that three will go in the first round. He also believes that one team will trade up for a quarterback.
“My sense is one goes early, maybe that’s (Liberty’s) Malik Willis. One goes in the middle, maybe that’s (Pitt’s Kenny) Pickett) and then someone probably trades up into the first round to take a quarterback. So maybe that’s (Cincinnati’s Desmond) Ridder, maybe that’s (UNC’s) Sam Howell. The (Detroit) Lions have done all of the quarterback work. Maybe they’ll take one at 2, we’ll see. But at 32 they could take one,” Rapoport said.
There are only a few teams in the NFL that are both in serious need of a quarterback and don’t believe they have one. But none of them seem super desperate to reach for one.

But unlike the last few NFL Drafts, there doesn’t seem to be one quarterback who has separated themselves from the rest of the pack.
Even if someone does take a quarterback early, it may not be the one that Ian Rapoport is expecting.
We could be heading into the most unpredictable NFL Draft years.
And we can’t wait to see it all go down.
