Sam Fortier discusses Emmanuel Forbes’ future with Washington on the latest Trap or Dive podcast.
Emmanuel Forbes has been a lightning rod of controversy in Commanders-land for the last six days since the joint practice against the New York Jets, where video clips of Jets receiver Garrett Wilson showed a couple big catches on Forbes. Forbes, who mostly had a solid outing against the Jets in the preseason game, failed to make a play in the endzone on a fade route, leading to a Jets touchdown. So, unfortunately, the controversy will not end anytime soon, as many are trying to get to the root of the issues with Forbes.
Sam Fortier of The Washington Post joined the Trap or Dive Podcast, and we discussed his perspective on Forbes heading into the second week of preseason. “I think Forbes’ future with the team is very much in question,” Fortier said about Forbes’s start to this preseason. Fortier acknowledged the fact he’s been taking a lot of starter reps, but there was something that Dan Quinn said that stood out and made him question the favor of Forbes among the coaching staff. “I thought it was notable that today when we asked Dan Quinn about him, Dan was like, “Yeah, “you know, I would have loved to see him not just have a PBU on that throw up the sideline but come down with an interception.” For him to come out and challenge Emmanuel in that way, I thought, was notable.”
Fortier acknowledged that the cornerback position group is one of the weakest on the team but he is also not sure that Forbes fits into the future vision for Quinn’s roster.
