For the fifth straight year Carlos Hyde will be looking for a new team ahead of the NFL season. He was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars today after just one season.
Hyde played in 12 games for the Jaguars in 2021, starting two of them. He finished the year with 72 carries for 253 yards and a career-low one touchdown. Hyde also had a career-low 318 yards from scrimmage.
It’s been an unceremonious fall from grace for Hyde, who just two years ago seemed to have found new life with the Houston Texans. But over the past two years – since hitting that dreaded 30-year wall – his production has nosedived.
Jaguars fans are collectively delighted to see Hyde gone after the chaotic year that was. Many saw him as an unnecessary addition who got the job due to his relationship with former head coach Urban Meyer – who coached Hyde at Ohio State.
Hallelujah, thank Christ. No offense to Hyde, but there is no room for him with J-Rob and ETN. #Jaguars https://t.co/8tPMpS2ga6

Between 2014 and 2017, Carlos Hyde gave the San Francisco the rare combination of being a power back and a backfield threat. He had 3,363 yards from scrimmage and 24 touchdowns in his first four seasons.
In 2018, he signed a three-year contract with the Cleveland Browns but was traded to the Jaguars midseason. The Jaguars let him go after the season and he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, who then traded him to Houston Texans before the season started.
Hyde went on to have a career-year in Houston, rushing for a career-high 1,070 yards as the Texans reached the playoffs.
But after so many trades and releases over the past four years, one has to wonder if his NFL career is on its last legs.
