Ja’Marr Chase took a lot of heat for his struggles during the summer, so it’s no surprise the Cincinnati Bengals rookie wide receiver is feeling good about himself after Week 1.
Chase had a well-publicized case of the drops during training camp and in his lone preseason game appearance. In his NFL regular season debut though, he showed the form that made him the Biletnikoff Award winner in his final college season two years ago.
Chase hauled in five passes for 101 yards and a touchdown, with the score coming on a beautiful 50-yard bomb from Joe Burrow. It was quite a response after a shaky preseason.
In an appearance on Good Morning Football this morning, Chase offered up a message for his detractors.
“I like to tell them, ‘Enjoy the show.’ That’s all I can tell them,” Chase said, via NFL.com. “A lot of news coming. I’ve been hearing this since I was young, you know what I’m saying? But I’m not worried about it. This is my job right here, and my job is to catch the football and make plays. So I’ma let them sit back and enjoy the show.”
Becoming the first Bengals rookie to go over 100 yards receiving in his first NFL game was a nice way for Chase to begin his pro career, but the No. 5 overall pick says there is more on the way.
He told the Good Morning Football crew today he’s aiming to break “every record” he can get his hands on.
