It was the smack heard ’round the college basketball world on Sunday. Things turned a bit ugly after the Michigan Wolverines loss to Wisconsin when tempers flared in the postgame handshake line. UM coach Juwan Howard was visibly upset, and after an exchange of words things turned physical.
A number of college hoops personalities and analysts reacted to the skirmish, including ESPN’s Jay Bilas. On Monday’s edition of “Get Up,” Bilas gave his take on the Howard altercation.

“Well, it was disappointing. To see two coaches get in a fight in the handshake line after a game is profoundly disappointing,” Bilas said.
“Usually it’s the administrators and the coaches who are waving their finger at the players to show decorum and act the right way. When the coaches can’t do it, it’s disappointing. It’s also disappointing that people are talking about, ‘Well, this guy pressed’ or ‘This guy called a timeout’ — So what? None of that matters.”

“The game was over,” Bilas concluded. “If we can’t act the right way in the handshake line, and then can’t take the right tone in the press conferences afterwards, I don’t know what. It’s really disappointing.”
Juwan Howard’s displeasure stemmed from a late timeout call with the Badgers already up big. After confronting Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard, Howard made contact with an opposing assistant in an effort to “protect himself” before the chaos ensued.
