Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a hamstring injury against the Dallas Cowboys that will keep him out of Week 8’s action. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the reigning Rookie of the Year will miss Monday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs. Veteran backup Marcus Mariota will start in his place.

Jayden Daniels OUT With Hamstring Injury
This will be the third game Daniels has missed due to injury. So far this season, the quarterback has completed 61.0% of his passes for 1,031 yards, eight touchdowns, and one interception while adding another 211 yards and a score on the ground. Despite his strong play, the Commanders are 2-3 in his starts.
With Jayden Daniels sidelined, the Commanders will turn to another former second-overall pick in Marcus Mariota. Selected by the Tennessee Titans in the 2015 NFL Draft, Mariota spent the past few years bouncing around the NFL before finding a home with the Washington Commmanders. In his three appearances (two starts), Mariota has completed 60.3% of his passes for 426 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions while rushing for 94 yards and a touchdown on 10 attempts. According to Pro Football Focus, Mariota’s 83.0 overall grade is the eighth-best mark in the league.
Mariota will have his hands full against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. After a rough start to the season, the Chiefs enter Week 8 with a 4-3 record after a dominant win over the Las Vegas Raiders. As the current MVP betting favorite, Mahomes and company should be favored to win this one. Washington, currently sitting at 3-4, must get back into the win column to keep up in the race for a Wild Card spot.
