Jayden Daniels and other players talk to me media after practice
Jayden Daniels spoke to the media again after practice today. He’s reviewed the film from the Week 1 loss to the Giants, and he said it’s never as good, or as bad as you think it’s going to be. There are always things to improve on, and he knows he can improve every aspect of his game. He, and the team, need to build on the positives from their first game together, and prepare for the rest of the season.
The offense will face another big test on Sunday as they prepare for the New York Giants defense. Daniels talked about their defensive line that added Brian Burns this year, and already had Kayvon Thibodeaux, Dexter Lawrence, and, others.
Daniels was credited with 16 rushes last week, but reallyy ran on 14 plays. He was asked about knowing when to run after a play has broken down and nobody is open. Daniels said it’s an instinctual thing that he’s had since he was a kid. Washington does have designed runs for their rookie signal caller, but he had to use his legs to extend plays several times vs the Buccaneers.

Knowing when to scramble:
The 16 rushing attempts by Jayden Daniels in Week 1 has been a hot topic this week.
I asked Jayden about his decision making in the moment.
Jayden said, “it’s like an instinctual thing, like “hey, the time is up.” Obviously, you don’t want to get hit by 300 pound plus people.” pic.twitter.com/TRLQ0dC6ol

Zach Ertz
Talk is cheap:
Commanders TE Zach Ertz is an absolute pro.
Just watch and listen.
Zach said, “after evaluating the film, I don’t think we are far off from being a really good offense. But, at the end of the day, talk is cheap and you have to go out there and perform on Sunday.” pic.twitter.com/W6TGxvyjbn

Luke McCaffrey
Offensive improvements:
Commanders WR Luke McCaffrey certainly doesn’t sound like a rookie.
On how the offense can improve, he said, “just continue to hone in on the details. I thought we had a lot of guys that fought and now it’s getting together and continuing to get one step better every play.” pic.twitter.com/pROmnt8YVx

Bobby Wagner
Week 1 loss:
Week 1 loss for the Commanders.
Flush it and learn from it.
On moving forward, Bobby Wagner said, “a lot of it was first reps for us…you just take it, watch the film and get better…be honest with yourself.” pic.twitter.com/lH5sEpmY92

Tampa heat:
I spoke to Bobby Wagner after practice about the heat in Tampa and if it affected him at all. He said that it did. So much so that he joked with me that he might have to play some preseason games going forward to get ready. I told him that’s not happening. #NFL #RaiseHail #HOF

Jeremy Chinn
Communication issues:
No other way to say it. The Commanders secondary was a mess in the season opener.
I spoke with Jeremy Chinn about the unit bouncing back on Sunday.
Jeremy said, “a lot of it is communication. Make sure everybody is on the same page.” pic.twitter.com/h3wY0pF9Tv

Austin Seibert
Great opportunity:
Will the 5th time be the charm for the Commanders?
New kicker Austin Seibert will give it his best shot.
Austin said, “it’s a great opportunity just to come in and do my job and put this team first…this is going on year 6, so I have the experience…competed a lot.” pic.twitter.com/XEGaxaJnuk
