After the disappointing end to their 2022 season and the stunning moves that started their offseason, Dallas Cowboys fans have been understandably frustrated. But team owner Jerry Jones wants to remind the fans of something.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Jones pointed to the addition of star linebacker Micah Parsons as proof that the team can improve with just a few tweaks. He said that he likes the team where it is now compared to last year.
“This time last year, we didn’t have Micah Parsons. But yet, we got better… I like where we are right now (compared) to this time last year,” Jones said.
But that statement doesn’t seem to be going over well. Fans in the comments of Michael Gehlken’s tweet have a hard time believing that they’ll go farther than last year’s team after the moves they’ve made:
Is the Cowboys’ roster talent today in worse shape than it was last season? Team owner Jerry Jones: “This time last year, we didn’t have Micah Parsons. But yet, we got better. …I like where we are right now (compared) to this time last year.”

“So the bar is set – duplicate last year’s 1st round loss in the playoffs. That was what was ultimately accomplished?” one fan replied.
“Last year we had Amari Cooper, Randy Gregory and Lael Collins. This year, those 3 players are gone and replacing them are CeeDee Lamb (ok not mad at this one), Dorance Armstrong (Edge 3-4, not Edge2 yet) and Terrence Steele who is unproven as a full time starter. Yet we’re better,” another fan said sarcastically.
There’s also the fact that players like Micah Parsons don’t grow on trees. It’s rare that any defensive player is as dominant in year one as he was last year.
It would really behoove the Cowboys to avoid assuming that whoever they get in the draft will immediately become one of the best at their position from the get-go.
