A little over two months after announcing his retirement, longtime MLB umpire Joe West is getting involved in the podcast business.
West announced today that his new podcast “5460: The Joe West Podcast” will debut on May 2. The number represents the 5,460 games West umpired in the big leagues, an all-time record.
During his more than four-decade long career, West, nicknamed “Cowboy,” had a checkered reputation with players, managers and fans. Not surprisingly, the reactions to his podcasting venture are similarly up-and-down.

We can’t say we’re dying to listen to West’s podcast, but there will probably at least be some cool baseball anecdotes on it from time to time.
Maybe West will even play some of his own country music. After all, he has performed at the Grand Ole Opry and has released multiple albums.
Let’s just hope his episodes won’t be as dawdling as the pace of some of the games he called over the years.
