Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills have been sent home in the playoffs by the Kansas City Chiefs each of the last two seasons.
While Kansas City beat Buffalo in the AFC Championship Game two years ago, this past season’s loss in the divisional round was even more heartbreaking. That’s because the Bills took the lead over the Chiefs with 13 seconds remaining in regulation, only to have Patrick Mahomes get his team into field goal range to send the game into overtime.
Kansas City wound up winning in the extra session without Allen and the Buffalo offense even touching the ball. The ending to that game led to the NFL changing its postseason overtime structure.
As brutal a loss as it was, Allen maintained to reporters today that he’s ready to put it behind him.
“Everybody wants to talk about that and it is what it is; it happened, there’s no going back,” Allen said, via Sal Maiorana of the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. “But if it was three months ago it might as well have been 10 years ago.”
It’s easier for Allen to say that than it is for players, coaches and fans to actually get over the game. Still, if Buffalo really is looking ahead, they have plenty to be hopeful about.
Heading into his fifth NFL season, Josh Allen has firmly established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the league. The Bills’ roster remains well-stocked, and Allen has no shortage of weapons to choose from, including Stefon Diggs, Gabriel Davis and Dawson Knox.
Will that be enough to get Buffalo over the hump in the AFC? We’ll have to wait and find out, but the Bills’ outlook is better than most, that’s for sure.
