Super Bowl 56, between the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams, garnered absolutely massive television ratings on NBC.
Just moments ago, the TV ratings for Super Bowl LVI were released. The NBC stream had 99.18 million viewers. There were an additional 1.03 million viewers on Telemundo. That’s a total of 100.21 million viewers for the biggest game in American sports.
How does that number compare to past Super Bowls? Super Bowl LV, last year’s game between the Buccaneers and Chiefs, had 96.4 million total viewers. It was the lowest audience since the 2007 Super Bowl. Super Bowl XLIX, the contest featuring the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks in 2015, remains No. 1 all-time with 114.44 million viewers.
Super Bowl LVI was a strong rebound compared to last year’s game.
“The broadcast averaged 99.18 million viewers on NBC and an additional 1.03 million on Telemundo for an over-the-air tally of 100.21 million viewers. Multi-platform figures, including streaming on Peacock and other digital outlets, are still to come and are likely to add several million more viewers to the total,” writes Rick Porter of The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans who tuned into the game saw a thrilling ending.
Trailing 20-16 with just under two minutes remaining, Matthew Stafford found Cooper Kupp in the end-zone for the eventual game-winning touchdown. The Rams’ defense then stopped Joe Burrow and Co. on fourth down during the ensuing drive to seal the victory.
The Rams clearly weren’t the only winners on Sunday night. The NFL has to be happy with the ratings, as well.
