Justin Fields’ first start of his NFL career was an absolute nightmare.
In Week 3 of the 2021 season, Fields completed just six of his 20 pass attempts for 68 yards in an ugly 26-6 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
Fields’ longtime quarterbacks coach Ron Veal revealed during an interview on 670 The Score in Chicago that Fields was “pissed” about Matt Nagy’s game-plan that week.
“It was bad,” Veal said, via Pro Football Talk. “He took a beating that day. It was kind of crazy and weird at the same time. . . . I know he was a little pissed about it but I didn’t get an explanation.
“And I really didn’t ask because I know he was in a situation where he was really pissed off about it.”

Justin Fields wasn’t the only one confused with Matt Nagy’s game-plan for him in his first NFL start.
There’s a reason Nagy lost his job this offseason.

“Anyone watching could see this was a terrible game plan,” a fan said. “There was zero effort to utilize his mobility.”

Justin Fields deserves a coach who builds a scheme for his skillset. Hopefully he gets that this upcoming season.
