Ben Simmons didn’t play in the Brooklyn Nets‘ blowout win over the Philadelphia 76ers. That didn’t stop Nets superstar Kevin Durant from defending his teammate from an aggressive Philly crowd.
The Nets crushed the 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center, winning 129-100. Throughout the game, 76ers fans could be heard heckling Simmons – a former 76ers player who was traded in February.
But the crowd got silent late in the game as the blowout reached its conclusion. Afterwards, Durant mocked the 76ers for chanting at Simmons while they were losing.
“It’s hard for you to chant at Ben Simmons when you’re losing by so much,” Durant said. Naturally, he’s getting called out by angry 76ers fans, but he’s got a point.

The Nets acquired Ben Simmons along with Seth Curry and Andre Drummond while sending James Harden to the 76ers.
But the early returns show that the 76ers pretty clearly won the trade. They’re 5-1 in games with James Harden while the Nets have gone 5-7 since making the trade – and Simmons has yet to play.
The Nets and 76ers have now played their final game against one-another in regular season. And it’s no guarantee that the two teams will face off in the NBA playoffs.
We will probably have to wait until next year to see just how much playing against his former team means to Ben Simmons.
