Kirk Cousins’ relationship with the Minnesota Vikings is a complicated one. However, he doesn’t see it that way.
There has been speculation the Vikings could look to move on from Cousins. Despite being an above-average quarterback, there’s room for improvement. But they’ve stuck by Cousins for the time being.
Cousins, meanwhile, would love nothing more than to retire a Viking. He even admitted as much on Monday afternoon.
Cousins wants to play the rest of his career in Minnesota, but is well aware he’s going to have to earn it.
“The short answer [for why I signed the contract extension] is, I wanted to be a Minnesota Viking,” Cousins said, via the Star Tribune. “I wanted to help create some cap space so that we could put together a roster that you do feel really good about. It’s just always trying to find win-wins. I think it was a way to create a win-win, and then hopefully that leads to a lot of wins this fall.
“My mind-set was really to be a Viking. I would like to retire as a Viking, and so I would like to play my way into that, if you will. I know I’ve got to earn the right to do that.”
Kirk Cousins said he “would like to retire as a Viking” but added that he recognizes he has to “earn that” by playing well.

Kirk Cousins needs to take the Vikings far this upcoming season if he wants to finish out his career in Minnesota. Up to this point he hasn’t performed well enough to earn the franchise quarterback label.
Will Cousins and the Vikings take hold of the NFC North this upcoming season?
