LIVE: OC Kliff Kingsbury speaks to the media before practice in AZ https://t.co/PTKQpSOHq2
— Washington Commanders (@Commanders) September 26, 2024
About returning to Arizona where he was formerly the head coach:
“It’s exciting to get to play a bunch of guys you know and have respect for, but other than that, it’s just been a short [week] from Monday, so it’s been all work.”
The next step for Jayden Daniels and the offense:
“We’ve talked about competitive stamina in this league and the ability to do it over and over again.”
On the evolution of Kingsbury’s scheme and playcalling:
“Anytime you have a young quarterback, you want to continue to play to his strengths.”
When it was mentioned that Jayden Daniels has yet to throw an interception:
“Don’t do that to him…don’t do that to him.”
“He sees the field; he’s a quick processor, a good decision-maker, and he knows when the party’s over. He knows when to throw it away or when to scramble and not force it.”
About Brandon Coleman:
“He’s getting more and more comfortable. He’s gonna get better each week. I liked the way he fought, and when he did have a negative play, he responded the right way.”
The final pass to Terry McLaurin in MNF:
“Think players, not plays. We basically invented a play because Terry said, ‘I got him.’ I screwed up the play call and they just made it work.”
Jayden Daniels’ growth:
“He’s a lot more efficient at the line of scrimmage.”
RB Brian Robinson Jr.:
“He’s everything I thought he would be and more.”
About how things went on MNF:
The biggest thing was negative plays. We had 18 in Week 2 and we had 4 [on Monday] night. That was the secret sauce to playing in the red zone as well — no penalties.”
WR Noah Brown:
“He’s a big time player. You feel his presence; he’s a big, physical guy…very football savvy.”
Replacing RB Austin Ekeler, who is in concussion protocol:
“You don’t replace a guy like that; you just have to find other ways to be creative.
On Jayden Daniels’ poise:
“He’s very competitive and fiery, but so far, you haven’t seen a negative play impact him…or a positive play. He just does his job. He’s up there with some of the best I’ve been around.”
Can Brian Robinson take on a bigger role in Ekeler’s absence?
“We’re not gonna just wear him out; we trust the other running backs on our roster.”
On his relationship with Kyler Murray:
“It’s been fun to watch him. The speed, the quickness, the competitive nature is there; it’s been great to see. I banked my entire career on what he could be and I still believe in it.”
On his time in Arizona:
“I’ve still got my house here. I love it here. Nothing but positive memories.”
Being an OC after being a HC:
“It’s been a good change and it’s been a fun group. DQ does a great job…so I’m really enjoying myself.”
“You’re spread pretty thin as the head coach. As the OC, you’re really focused on the offense, so that’s been cool.”
