For the past few weeks, the biggest concern regarding Detroit Lions running back D’Andre Swift has been whether or not he’ll be ready to play in Week 1. After all, the second-year tailback from Georgia has been nursing a groin injury.
Then, on Thursday, a rumor emerged on Reddit stating that Swift was linked to a murder by an anonymous tip to the Philadelphia police.
When asked about the concerning rumors involving Swift, Lions head coach Dan Campbell said “That’s just internet rumors I don’t feel like I need to comment on right now.”
Campbell was then asked if Swift is under investigation for a murder case. He responded “Not to my knowledge.”

On Friday morning, NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo provided an important update on Swift’s situation.
“I will add this: We did extensive reporting on the situation the last two days. Philadelphia Police have declined to comment. Sources have indicated D’Andre Swift is not under investigation,” Garafolo said. “There is an open murder case. But again, no indication Swift is a suspect.”
Swift showcased his potential several times over the course of his rookie season in Detroit. In 2020, he had 521 rushing yards, 357 receiving yards and 10 total touchdowns.
The Lions will need Swift to take that next step in his progression in order for them to be successful this year.
