For the last two decades, Larry McReynolds has served as a NASCAR analyst for FOX Sports, with stints TNT and SiriusXM also mixed in.
Before that, McReynolds was a longtime accomplished NASCAR crew chief. Now, after more than 20 years away from that role, McReynolds will be back on the box next Saturday.
He announced today that he’s been asked by Richard Childress Racing, his old team, to serve as Jeffrey Earnhardt’s crew chief next weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.
“Just for the record, at the end of 2000, I never used the world retire. I said sabbatical, and it’s been a long sabbatical,” McReynolds joked. “But next Saturday for the Xfinity Series race, Richard Childress has asked me to come back and sit on the box as a crew chief for the No. 3 car at Talladega.”

This should be a special event for McReynolds, who served as the crew chief for the legendary Dale Earnhardt, Jeffrey’s grandfather, back in 1997. With McReynolds in that spot, Dale Earnhardt finished second in a Cup Series race at Talladega that year.
We’ll see if he can bring a similar result for Jeffrey Earnhardt next Saturday.
