Tom Brady seems to take delight in befuddling social-media followers. The world is always hanging on his every word, even when he doesn’t say anything at all.
On Sunday afternoon, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers icon tagged fellow superstar quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, and Josh Allen in a Twitter post with an eyeballs emoji.
He’s yet to offer any further context.

The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman speculated that Brady teased out fellow participants in The Match. Brady has teamed with Phil Mickelson in each of the last two years, losing the golf spectacle to Peyton Manning and Tiger Woods in 2020 and falling short to Rodgers and Bryson DeChambeau last year.
I think Tom just announced who’s in The Match this summer https://t.co/gLDJHu3Pv9

Mahomes and Allen both like to golf, so it’s a plausible theory. Perhaps this year’s format involves two NFL stars and two professional golfers on each side.
If not, maybe he was laying down a challenge to some of the league’s other premier quarterbacks on title contenders. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, those four are among the NFL’s top-five MVP candidates alongside Los Angeles Chargers signal-caller Justin Herbert.
Or maybe he just wanted to see if everyone would overreact to a meaningless tweet. If that was the goal, mission accomplished.
