The Dallas Cowboys had dropped plenty of hints that they wanted to trade Amari Cooper. On Saturday, they did it, sending the wide receiver to the Cleveland Browns.
By getting rid of Cooper, the Cowboys cleared a substantial amount of cap space, and by trading him, they were able to recoup an asset, namely a fifth-round pick.
That didn’t stop Dez Bryant, Dallas’ former No. 1 receiver, from expressing his disappointment with the move on Twitter.

We don’t blame Dez for being disappointed. Cooper was a valuable piece for the Cowboys last season, and at 27 years old, should still have some good football ahead of him.
However, like we said, Dallas had made it clear they weren’t keeping the four-time Pro Bowler. The Cowboys reportedly want to lock up Michael Gallup to a multi-year deal and pair him with CeeDee Lamb to lead their wide receiving corps.
Meanwhile, Cooper will become Baker Mayfield’s No. 1 wideout in Cleveland. Hopefully he has more success there than the last big-name receiver the Browns traded for, Odell Beckham Jr., who didn’t experience a career resurgence until leaving for the Rams midway through the 2021 season.
