Both longtime college basketball commentator Dick Vitale and Michigan legend Desmond Howard have strong opinions about the Juwan Howard incident. Those opinions fall on the opposite end of the spectrum, though.
Immediately following Sunday’s brawl between the Michigan and Wisconsin men’s basketball teams, Vitale took to Twitter. He strongly opposed how Howard, in particular, behaved and called his actions “INEXCUSABLE” and called for the Michigan head coach to be punished in the form of a serious suspension.
Howard, meanwhile, saw Vitale’s tweets on Sunday afternoon. The former Heisman winner couldn’t believe what he was seeing from Dickie V.
“I am looking at @DickieV tweets and I’m finding it very difficult to believe that these aren’t the words of a ghostwriter. Seem very personal/aggressive considering his heart,” Howard tweeted.
Vitale, after seeing Howard’s tweet, issued a response and stuck to his guns. The longtime college basketball commentator still believes Howard should be suspended.
“Just saw where @DesmondHoward felt I was aggressive in my feelings about what happened btw @umichbball & @BadgerMBB. Yes I was because there is NO PLACE for that behavior,” Vitale tweeted. “From the day @JuwanHoward was hired I’ve been a big supporter. Desmond he MUST be suspended not fired .”

Does Juwan Howard deserve to be punished for his actions yesterday? Absolutely. Termination would be a bit too far, however. Suspension seems like the appropriate move.
Regardless of the opinion you have regarding yesterday’s Michigan-Wisconsin brawl, we can all agree that Juwan Howard should have never laid a finger on one of Wisconsin’s assistant coaches. And Greg Gard should have let Howard pass in the handshake line without engaging.
Do you think Howard deserves a suspension for his actions?
