Being in the Elite Eight has been incredibly special for everyone associated with the Saint Peter’s Peacocks and their basketball team. But for one father of a Saint Peter’s player, the emotions of the moment were overwhelming.
During the game, the cameras panned to Butch Lee, the father of Peacocks junior guard Matthew Lee. It was clear from the look on his face that the moment was surreal to him.
Lee was seen almost in tears as Saint Peter’s and North Carolina got underway. It might have brought back memories of his own NCAA Tournament success with Marquette when he was a basketball player.
Back in 1977, Lee led Marquette to a national championship. His Golden Eagles knocked off North Carolina – the very team is son is playing today – in the process.
Fans on Twitter are applauding Lee for his show of emotion during the game:

“There’s not very many things that are more spiritually uplifting than watching your child have success at a high level. I’d be reacting the exact same way if it were me,” one fan wrote.
“I cannot handle this,” wrote another. “Wholesome content right here.”
“It is so cool to see Marquette Warriors legend and 1977 national champion Butch Lee watch his son Matthew help get this historic Saint Peter’s team this far,” Mike Cianciolo of BVM Sports wrote.
What a special moment in a special NCAA Tournament.
