The last thing the Los Angeles Angels wanted to see happened Sunday when Mike Trout got hit in the hand by a pitch.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Texas Rangers reliever Spencer Patton caught the Angels superstar with an off-target slider. Trout immediately hopped around in pain before exiting the game.
Fox Sports’ Ben Verlander shared a fan’s captured video of the worrying incident.

The Angels later announced on Twitter that Trout is considered day-to-day after X-rays on his left hand came back negative.

Trout’s injury troubles continue to mount. Excluding the shortened 2020, the three-time AL MVP has missed time in each of the last four full seasons. A calf strain limited him to just 36 games last year.
The 30-year-old had hit two home runs and three doubles with a .972 OPS in nine games this season. He’s one of MLB’s premier hitters when healthy, and only more injury woes can block him from finishing his Hall of Fame career in the G.O.A.T. conversation.
One can only hope Trout avoided the worst-case-scenario and won’t require another lengthy IL stint.
