The Brooklyn Nets lost Game 1 of their Eastern Conference first round playoff series to the Boston Celtics today, despite 39 points from Kyrie Irving.
While Irving’s breathtaking performance wasn’t enough to prevent a 115-114 buzzer-beating defeat, it was enough to catch the attention of his former Cleveland teammate, LeBron James.
James praised Kyrie multiple times on Twitter during the game, including in response to a tweet saying he should be added to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Top 75 list.
“Dame shame he ain’t Top 75!” James wrote.
Damn shame he ain’t Top 75! 🤦🏾♂️ https://t.co/jQyMvd0qXO

This comment from LeBron is after he referred to Irving as “Young God-rie” earlier in the afternoon.
Young God-rie is so damn good at basketball man!!! INSANE SKILL!!

We can’t argue with that fact. All afternoon in front of a hostile crowd, Irving showed why the Nets missed his presence for much of the season while he was barred from playing home games due to his vaccination status..
Because of Kyrie today, the Nets almost survived a shockingly poor game from Kevin Durant, who shot 9-for-24 and had six turnovers in 41 minutes.
They will need KD to be better, and Kyrie to be elite as well, if they want to even the series up on Wednesday.
