Look: Steelers Fans Start Shrine For Dwayne Haskins At Heinz Field

April 17, 2022 by The Spun

Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins looks on from the sidelines during a game.

Eight days ago, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins was tragically killed when he was struck by a pickup truck while walking on the side of a Florida highway.

Since then, tributes to the young man taken far too soon have popped up all over, including at his alma mater, Ohio State. Now, it looks like Steelers fans have gotten in on the demonstrations.

Nick Farabaugh of Steelers Now shared a photo today of a new shrine to Haskins, started outside of C Gate at Heinz Field.

“The shrine itself is centered around a photo of Haskins in a Steelers uniform that reads, “Rest in Peace Dwayne Haskins Jr. 1997-2022,” Farabaugh wrote. “Below the photo are some flowers adorning the bottom of the gate, including a group of flowers in a Steelers vase. Directly below the photo is another photo of Haskins that says, “Rest In Peace Simba. Forever in our hearts,” with a heart drawn in the bottom right corner of the photo.”

This is a touching tribute from some Steelers faithful, especially considering Haskins was not part of the franchise long. Clearly, he left a mark.

“He quickly became part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community,” Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin said of Haskins following his passing. “Dwayne was a great teammate, but even more so a tremendous friend to so many. I am truly heartbroken.”
