Los Angeles Chargers Among Potential Dre Greenlaw Landing Spots

February 18, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Dre Greenlaw

When he is healthy, Dre Greenlaw is one of the best players in the NFL. The San Francisco 49ers star linebacker is set to hit free agency this offseason. A 49ers insider reported that Greenlaw is ready to leave San Francisco. If this is the case, which other franchises could be potential suitors for the the star defender?

Potential Dre Greenlaw Landing Spots

Although Greenlaw is reportedly ready to leave the 49ers, this may very well not be the case. If Greenlaw is willing to re-sign with the Niners, that would likely be the best option for him. He is familiar with the team’s defensive system and Robert Salah is back as defensive coordinator. However, if Greenlaw is indeed wanting to leave, there are a couple of different franchise’s who could greatly benefit from his services.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are in position to spend this off-season. Los Angeles is coming off of a good season but a brutal playoff loss. The Houston Texans beat the Chargers 32-12 in the Wild Card round. Both offensively and defensively, Los Angeles looked out matched all game. Greenlaw would slot in very nicely in this defensive unit. Denzel Perryman looked a step slower this season and is set to hit free agency, opening up a linebacker spot for Greenlaw.

The Texans exposed the Chargers defense in the postseason. Greenlaw would be a great reinforcement for the Chargers to bring in on defense. They also have the necessary cap space to draw him to Los Angeles.

Washington Commanders

The Commanders are coming off of an amazing season. However, that season ended in the NFC Championship Game against the Eagles, 55-23. The defense looked out matched all game, squandering 459 total yards to the Philadelphia offense. Now Bobby Wagner, one of Washington’s defensive leaders, is set to hit free agency. With the third most cap space in the league heading into free agency, the Commanders could opt to pursue Greenlaw and let Wagner walk at the linebacker position.

Dan Quinn is a defensive-minded coach and likely wants to improve the roster that side of that ball. With rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels seeing so much success last year, Washington will likely look to build up their defense in order to be a more complementary team moving forward.

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears are a team looking towards the future. Greenlaw is a defender who could fit their timeline. Although they are a few years from true contention, bringing in a player like Greenlaw could help speed up the Bears timeline. Chicago has the necessary cap space to lure Greenlaw away from San Francisco. It was evident this year that the NFC North is going to be a tough division moving forward.

The Bears must do everything they can to stay competitive especially as they enter young quarterback Caleb Williams‘ prime years. With new head coach Ben Johnson, the focus may be on fixing the offensive side of the ball, but the front office could definitely eye bringing in Dre Greenlaw if he leaves the San Francisco 49ers.
