The LSU Tigers made a significant move this Friday, parting ways with basketball coach Will Wade. College basketball insider Jon Rothstein was first to report the news.
According to Stadium insider Jeff Goodman, the Notice of Allegations that LSU received last week were too severe for the school to keep Wade around.
That being said, the timing of this decision is quite interesting. With the NCAA tournament just around the corner, Kevin Nickelberry will be asked to lead the team.
“I’m honestly shocked it happened so soon. NOA actually must’ve been legit this time,” Zach Nuñez said.

“Firing your coach before the NCAA Tournament is wild stuff,” Nick Farabaugh tweeted. “Something deeper is going on / coming here.”

“Wow. Surprised they did this even though they should have,” Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio said.

Wade was suspended in 2019 after a wiretap caught him talking about a “strong offer” for former guard Javonte Smart. The latest information must be worse than that for him to get fired.
LSU was eliminated by Arkansas in the SEC Tournament on Friday afternoon, but the program is expected to make the NCAA tournament due to its 22-12 record.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, most of the focus this weekend will be on Wade’s departure. That could be a serious distraction heading into next week.
