One of the biggest mysteries surrounding the 2024 NFL draft is what the Washington Commanders will do at No. 2 overall.
The Chicago Bears hold the No. 1 overall selection and are expected to take USC quarterback Caleb Williams. That was further cemented on Wednesday at Williams’ pro day in Los Angeles.
So, essentially, next month’s draft begins at No. 2. The Commanders need a quarterback and while they presumably love Williams, he’s an unlikely option barring a “historic haul” to move up one spot. General manager Adam Peters isn’t the type to give up a historic haul to move up.
That leaves Washington to decide between Jayden Daniels of LSU and Drake Maye of North Carolina.
There has been a lot of smoke surrounding Daniels. However, Peters, owner Josh Harris and head coach Dan Quinn are a tight-lipped group. This isn’t the old days when you knew which way Washington was leaning months before.
So, what does Las Vegas think the Commanders will do at No. 2?
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Daniels is the current favorite at -170. Maye is second at +135. No one else is close. Williams would be the next closest at +1500.
Expect the intrigue to last until Washington goes on the clock at No. 2 overall, and those odds could change multiple times over the next five weeks.
