Pro Bowl cornerback Malcolm Butler retired just before the start of the 2021 NFL season. But after being released by the Arizona Cardinals last month, he’s ready to return – and may already have a suitor.
According to ESPN NFL insider Field Yates, the Houston Texans are working Butler out today. The Texans are reportedly working out a bunch of cornerbacks this week, including four-year veteran Isaac Yiadom.
Butler last saw the field for the Tennessee Titans during the 2020 season. He had one of his best seasons with a career-high 100 tackles along with four interceptions and 14 passes defended.
But the Titans decided to release him ahead of the fourth year of the massive free agent contract they gave him back in 2020. The Cardinals signed him less than three weeks later.
The Texans are working out veteran CB and Super Bowl XLIX hero Malcolm Butler today, as @AaronWilson_NFL reported.
The team also has CB Isaac Yiadom in for a visit, who spent last season with the Packers.

As a rookie in 2014, Malcolm Butler became a Super Bowl icon when he intercepted Russell Wilson in the final defensive play of Super Bowl XLIX.
Over the next few years, Butler would establish himself as a top notch NFL cornerback. He made the Pro Bowl in 2015, earned All-Pro honors in 2016, and has been a consistent starter when healthy ever since.
Whether it’s the Texans or another NFL team, Butler can offer a lot in an age where top-flight cornerback play is a must-have.
Will Malcolm Butler return to the NFL this coming season? Or will he wind up staying retired?
