Maryland travels to Nebraska looking to win their third in a row.

February 20, 2023 by Maryland Sports Blog

The Maryland Terrapins travel to Nebraska in hopes of continuing their good streak of basketball as of late. The Terps are coming off their biggest win this entire season and arguably in many years as they took down number 3 Purdue at home Thursday night. The Terps played their best brand of basketball on Thursday behind an electrifying Xfinity Center crowd. They never quit, even after finding themselves in an 8 point hole early in the second half. From there, it was all Terrapins and they went on to win 68-54.

Nebraska is 13-14 this season, but finds themselves on a 2 game win streak, beating both Wisconsin and Nebraska most recently. Nebraska is led by guard Keisei Tominaga, who averages 12.6 points per game. Derrick Walker leads alongside him, averaging 13.4 points per game, as well as shooting 50% from the three point line on the season. Although their record may not prove it, Nebraska can be a scrappy team, and traveling in the Big Ten is no joke.

On Thursday night, Terps fans witnessed the best brand of basketball this season, as the Terps went on to a dominating finish in College Park. Maryland had one of their best shooting performances of the season, shooting 45 percent from 3 and 47 percent from the field. This was fun to watch as a Terps fan, as the shooting struggle has come to haunt the Terps sometimes in games like Michigan State and the first match up with Purdue.

Transfer guard Jahmir Young continues to become a hometown hero, as he dropped 20 points against Purdue, in a standout performance. Hakim Hart continues to shine as well recently, adding 13 points himself on Thursday night, a lot of those coming down the stretch, giving the Terps the extra boost they needed to get over the hump.

The Terps played great defense in the second half of the game, and shut down Zach Edey as much as humanly possible. Julian Reese did a great job against him, and held him to only 18, which for him is not anything great. Today, the defense will have to be a factor, as traveling in the Big Ten is no easy task. It takes a lot to get a win on the road, no matter the record. Along with this, finding a groove early for the Terps would be a big help. Grabbing the momentum and getting the home crowd out of it is important, and would turn into a big boost.

Although the Terps beat the Cornhuskers by 19 earlier in the year, they can not take this game off. As mentioned earlier, traveling in the Big Ten is not easy, so taking this as an easy task, would not be smart. If the Terps come anywhere close to their performance on Thursday night, this should be another win. The Terps face off against Nebraska at 5:00 this evening, Go Terps!
