The 2022 NFL Draft might be the most important draft of Mike Tomlin’s tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers. So it’s understandable that he might be “pissed” about missing one important player’s Pro Day.
Tomlin recently spoke to Steelers insider Brooke Pryor about his fondness for attending Pro Days. But he admitted that he’s upset that he’s going to have to miss the Pro Day for North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell tomorrow.
“Yeah, and I’m pissed about it,” Tomlin said bluntly.
Tomlin will be attending the NFL owners’ meeting in Palm Beach instead. His Steelers have the No. 20 overall pick in the NFL Draft and may very well use it on a quarterback like Howell.
Why does Mike Tomlin attend so many Pro Days?
“I like to work… I’d rather be out beating the bushes than be behind a desk.”
Tomlin said he’ll miss Sam Howell’s Pro Day in Chapel Hill tomorrow because he’s at owners meetings in Palm Beach.

Mike Tomlin is heading into his 16th season with the Steelers but his first without Ben Roethlisberger as the starting quarterback. While the Steelers have stated that they will go into 2022 with the QBs they have, everyone expects them to draft a quarterback early.
So it should be no surprise that Tomlin isn’t thrilled by the idea of missing a chance to see a QB he might like up close and personal. Though it remains to be seen how it influences their draft decisions.
Sam Howell is considered one of the top quarterbacks in the 2022 draft class. But not so highly that the Steelers will definitely have to move up for him.
It’s a testament to how much football means to Mike Tomlin that he gets “pissed” by missing any of the NFL process.
