This year’s NFL Draft doesn’t possess a clear No. 1 pick. Without a generational quarterback talent hogging the spotlight, there’s ample intrigue at the top of draft boards.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have a handful of options once Roger Goodell officially puts them on the clock. If they listened to Mina Kimes, they’d take Kyle Hamilton.
On an NFL Live episode from the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, the ESPN analyst said the Notre Dame safety is not just the best safety in this year’s class, but the best overall player.
Kimes called Hamilton the “best player for this moment in football” because of how much modern defenses require from a safety.
There’s a consensus that Notre Dame’s Kyle Hamilton is the best safety in the draft. But I also think he’s the best player, period. pic.twitter.com/KbLBRormnf

“And versatility is what this guy has in spades,” Kimes said of Hamilton. “I’m mean, he can play deep middle. He can play split safety. He can play in the box. He can play in the slot. He can blitz, and he has the size, the range, and the ball skills to do all of those things at an elite level.
“If I was a rebuilding defense, I would want to rebuild the whole thing around this guy.”
This isn’t the consensus choice; multiple mock drafts have the New York Jets selecting Hamilton with the fourth pick. Kimes’ colleague, Damien Woody, wondered if she had his former team in mind.

Perhaps Hamilton won’t make it to Gang Green if the Jaguars, Detroit Lions, or Houston Texas are as excited about his pro prospects as Kimes.
