After seven years, two All-Star appearances and a World Series title with the Houston Astros, shortstop Carlos Correa has hit MLB free agency.
It may take a while for a deal to come together regardless of how close Correa is to finding a new team. But according to MLB insider Jon Morosi, one team has emerged as the favorite.
In a feature for MLB.com, Morosi identified the Chicago Cubs as the early favorite to sign Correa. Morosi cited the discussions Correa’s camp had with the Cubs prior to the winter lockout.
Chicago wasn’t considered the top contenders to sign Correa before free agency started. Morosi explained that the Cubs have taken extensive steps to clear their payroll to make signing him a much more achievable feat.

As a rookie in 2015, Carlos Correa had 108 hits, 22 home runs and 52 runs scored. He won Rookie of the Year honors, but that was only the beginning.
In 2017, Correa earned his first All-Star appearance as the Astros went on to win the World Series. He had a career-high .315 batting average and a .391 on-base percentage, earning his first Golden Glove in the process.
This past year he had a career-high 26 home runs and earned another All-Star appearance as the Astros made the World Series again. He won a second Golden Glove and finished fifth in the AL MVP voting.
