DeMarvion Overshown injury update: Dallas Cowboys say they are ‘devastated’

As the fourth quarter began in earnest linebacker DeMarvion Overshown suffered a right knee injury and needed help to leave the field and game. He was just about immediately ruled out from the rest of the contest.

While the team’s loss to Cincinnati stung, attention quickly turned to Overshown and what the significance of the injury was/is. At the time of this writing it is still not fully known, but some details have begun to trickle out.

McCarthy noted that the team is devastated and that the injury did not look good. For what it is worth, Jerry Jones left it at saying that the team was “very concerned.”

The Cowboys likely want to get official tests and what not done before making any final and official determinations on Overshown, but clearly there is cause for some true concern.

After breaking Giants’ INT drought, CB suffers a bad break

Hawkins reportedly suffered fractured lumbar spine

The bad news just keeps piling up for the New York Giants. During a game in which he got the Giants’ first interception in 12 games, cornerback Tre Hawkins reportedly suffered a fractured lumbar spine.

The second-year cornerback, buried on the depth chart after a poor start to his career in 2023, played the best game of his career Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. He had two passes defensed and six tackles in addition to the interception. Hawkins started with Deonte Banks (rib) and Dru Phillips (shoulder) already out of the lineup.

The news means that Hawkins is likely to finish the season on injured reserve. Hawkins was a sixth-round pick by the Giants in 2023.

Bengals-Cowboys on ‘Monday Night Football’: What We Learned from Cincinnati’s 27-20 win

Cowboys find a new way to lose. In a game in which neither team put its winning foot forward, Dallas forced a punt that appeared it would be pivotal to the final outcome. Former Bengals linebacker Nick Vigil broke through the punt team protection and blocked the punt, sending it fluttering toward the Bengals’ sideline where the Cowboys’ Amani Oruwariye attempted to recover it instead of getting away from the live ball. It slipped through his grasp, free for the Bengals to recover and retain possession, which they did. That gave the Bengals new life, which Joe Burrow and Co. did not waste, covering 57 yards in three plays, with the last 40 coming on a Burrow completion to Ja’Marr Chase for a tiebreaking touchdown with just 61 seconds left on the clock. The outcome of that sequence wasted a generally solid night for Cooper Rush, who proved he shouldn’t be asked to go win a game in the final minute. Realistically, he never should’ve been in such a spot. Dallas should’ve gotten the ball with excellent field position and set up Brandon Aubrey for a last-second field goal. Instead, the Cowboys gifted the Bengals a second chance and paid for it, underscoring a season filled with every kind of disappointment. Monday night’s produced a new one.

NFL Research: Cooper Rush’s second-quarter interception ended a promising drive for the Cowboys and added to an unfortunate career stat for the backup quarterback. Dallas is 6-0 in Rush starts when he doesn’t commit a turnover. His record when he does commit a turnover, however, dropped to 1-4 after Monday night’s loss.

2025 NFL Draft order: Jaguars upset of Titans rocks top 10; Cowboys No. 12 after loss to Bengals

1 – New York Giants – 2-11 – .527 (strength of schedule)

  • Biggest needs: QB, OT, CB, OG, WR
  • Week 15 opponent: vs. Ravens
  • Remaining strength of schedule: .596 (T-5th)

New York’s grip on the No. 1 overall pick is a bit tighter now after Jacksonville earned its third victory of the campaign. While the Giants’ challenging remaining schedule could keep them without a win over the season’s final month, it will certainly increase the team’s overall SOS, narrowing the gap between them and the Raiders. If both teams continue to struggle to add to their win totals, the race for the 2025 draft’s top pick could come down to a few tenths of a percent.

Eagles vs. Panthers: 10 winners, 3 losers, 3 IDKs

I can’t get over the Eagles only having 83 net passing yards in this game.

83 net passing yards.

In the year 2024.

That’s just so incredibly unserious.

83 net passing yards against a Panthers defense that entered Week 14 allowing the ninth-most passing yards per game (225.3).

And a Panthers defense that was missing their sack leader (Jadeveon Clowney dodged the Eagles) and their top cornerback for a portion of the game (Jaycee Horn got hurt).

“But the Panthers are playing better recently!”

OK, sure, but here are their net passing yards allowed during this stretch:

  • 230 in Week 9 (Derek Carr)
  • 175 in Week 10 (Daniel Jones)
  • 226 in Week 12 (Patrick Mahomes)
  • 209 in Week 13 (Baker Mayfield)

Bryce Young helped the Panthers account for 184 net passing yards against the Eagles, who have a much better defense than Carolina does. And Young is working with a worse supporting cast.

The Eagles had A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith and their entire starting offensive line healthy. They can’t be held to 83 net passing yards against the Panthers. That’s just not acceptable.

And the team knows it.

Jalen Hurts on the Eagles’ passing performance against the Panthers:

“I think they did a good job. I think we did a bad job. That starts with me.”

On what’s holding the passing offense back:

“Lack of synchronization.”

If Jared Goff is an MVP candidate, Sam Darnold should be, too. Darnold has more yards and touchdowns, and Goff’s full-season passer rating is only one point higher, 109.1 to 108.1.
