Super Team Unite! What a way to start the home opener. The Washington Mystics sent a message to the “Super Team” New York Liberty 80-64.
This was Game 1 of 40, the game gave playoff atmosphere with the Entertainment Sports Arena selling out.

The Washington Mystics sent a message–
“Y’all can keep sleeping” that is what Natasha Cloud said postgame. The Washington Mystics have gotten a lot of criticism the last two season particularly with the roster.
Coming into the season the mainstream media focused on New York and Las Vegas as the favorites to get to the finals.
The “Super Team” lost by 16 points, no WNBA team has ever lost their season whether on the road or, at home gone to win the finals.
Defensively the “three musketeers” (Natasha Cloud, Ariel Atkins, and Brittany Sykes) set the tone with making at New York’s offense to get going.
Washington checked New York by allowing of their 34.3 percent shots compared to Washington shooting 45.7 percent.
Elena Della Donne has put the WNBA on Notice–
Appreciate the greatness. Elena Della Donne for the last two seasons has had an interesting journey. Missing the 2020 season due to back surgery limiting her to 26 games the last two seasons.
Again, Elena silenced the critics with her performance even though it was an all around effort. Furthermore, game 1 was just a taste to remind folks who Elena Della Donne is the MVP that outplayed two other MVPs.

Lastly, games are not won on paper, and we are going to see the teams who have chemistry against the ones who need to go back to the drawing board.
The “super team” in their first game have a lot to work on. The trio of Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart, and Jonquel Jones disappointed in tonight’s performance.
What’s more with the New York Liberty the box score gave a different outlook. In addition it is the first game of the season. However, coming out with mass expectations the Liberty simply did not pass the test. The Liberty were not a “super team” tonight if shooting 23-of-67 from the field with 20 turnovers, and only score 64 points? Furthermore that will not win basketball games.
