Central Virginia residents sheltered in place Thursday as severe storms and a tornado warning swept the area. Despite the conditions, Richmond Raceway is reportedly still on track to host NASCAR’s Toyota Owners 400 this Sunday.
According to FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass, sources said the race track suffered no damage from the storm.

As a result of the inclement weather, Richmond Raceway cancelled an event scheduled for Thursday with no plans to reschedule because of the weekend’s bust itinerary.
Unfortunately, due to inclement weather, tonight’s Track Walk is canceled. Due to the packed schedule for this weekend, we won’t be able to reschedule.

The NASCAR Cup Series race is still scheduled for Sunday. Chase Elliott will look to maintain his spot atop the Cup Series standings against 36 other competitors, including Joey Logano, fellow Chevrolet drivers Alex Bowman and Ross Chastain, and Kyle and Kurt Busch.
Bowman, currently fourth in the standings with a Pennzoil 400 victory and second-place finish at the Texas Grand Prix last Sunday, edged out Danny Hamlin at Richmond Raceway last year. This weekend’s event will mark NASCAR’s first points race on a short track this season.
