NBA fans are calling on the Association to make one major rule change.
The clear path foul is when a personal foul occurs during a team’s transition scoring opportunity. When whistled, it results in two free throws and retaining possession, similar to a technical foul.
Defenders have often found ways to avoid the call, instead making an obvious attempt at the ball to stop a transition opportunity and get called for a common foul.
On Saturday during the playoff game between the Timberwolves and Grizzlies, D’Angelo Russell made a clear steal attempt during Ja Morant’s fast-break opportunity. By definition it was a clear path foul. But fans are pretty furious it was called. Russell was simply trying to play defense.

“Clear Path Foul is the worst written rule in the NBA rulebook, for the record. By definition, that’s clear path. But look where Morant is. You’re allowed to challenge that as a defender. It’s the one rule the NBA needs to restructure and reword.”

Will the NBA listen and make the change? Hopefully.
