While LeBron James and Kyrie Irving were not exactly always best friends when they played together, LeBron stuck up for the point guard on Twitter today.
Irving is still unable to play in home games for the Brooklyn Nets due to New York City’s private sector vaccine regulations. However, he is able to watch the team play in person this afternoon.
That doesn’t seem to make too much sense, and LeBron made it clear that he doesn’t understand the logic.
“FACTS FACTS FACTS!! It literally makes ABSOLUTELY ZERO SENSE!!!” James wrote on Twitter. “They say if common sense was common then we’d all have it. Ain’t that the truth. #FreeKyrie.”
Not surprisingly, people are chiming in left and right about James’ opinion. Some are praising him for having Kyrie’s back, while others noted that the #FreeKyrie hashtag might be foolish considering it was the Nets star’s choice to not get vaccinated.
Everybody forgets the mandate was not installed for Kyrie Irving or with basketball in mind. You can make an exception for Irving but then what do you tell the 1,430 workers NYC fired last month. https://t.co/0rPiKMApBs

LeBron defending Kyrie after everything he said about him is another reason I don’t buy the “crybaby” narrative https://t.co/D0ysMUGbQj

He’ll be allowed to play by tomorrow now. Bron needed to know there was no shot he’d be in the finals and having to possibly see the nets before he hit us w the #FreeKyrie 😂 https://t.co/qnmoTuvrBb

There’s no need to “free” Kyrie because the only person prohibiting him from playing is himself. While the current rule is very weird, Kyrie could play, he just doesn’t want to https://t.co/DMBGjuQjxg

Even without Kyrie, the Nets are handling their business this afternoon against the crosstown rival New York Knicks.
They lead by seven late in the third quarter on ABC.
