NFL World Reacts To The AJ Brown Contract News

April 28, 2022 by The Spun

Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown carries the ball in an NFL game.

One of the craziest moves of the first round of the NFL Draft wasn’t even a pick. It was the Philadelphia Eagles trading for A.J. Brown.

Philadelphia sent the 18th and 101st overall picks in this year’s draft to Tennessee in exchange for Brown, who was one of the league’s best young wide receivers in his first three professional seasons.

Not only did the Eagles trade for Brown, they immediately gave him the lucrative contract extension he had been seeking from the Titans. Philadelphia inked the 2019 second-round pick to a four-year, $100 million pact with $57 million guaranteed, per reports.

The Brown trade sent shockwaves throughout the NFL, and the ensuing contract stirred up plenty of conversation among fans and media.

$100 million contract for old AJ Brown or rookie contract for neu AJ Brown

Wait, why did the Titans trade AJ Brown and then draft a WR? Contract?

— Coach Vass (@CoachVass) April 29, 2022

💰💰#Eagles like AJ Brown more than Treylon Burks.#Titans like Treylon Burks’s rookie contract and a 3rd more than paying AJ Brown https://t.co/ohwi3bnzEY

Injury concerns, contract dispute, whatever the reason…

AJ Brown is the most talented WR the #Titans have ever had and they just traded him away after three years in the league.

AJ Brown’s new deal is going to set the floor for the Deebo Samuel contract

— Akash Anavarathan (@akashanav) April 29, 2022

That AJ Brown contract number seems very reasonable as a floor for Deebo.

— Drea Blackwell (@KSBWDrea) April 29, 2022

I’m in absolute shock. That contract is completely reasonable for AJ Brown. I don’t understand at all what the Titans are doing. And somehow this is even worse for the Arizona Cardinals. Someone make it make sense.

Damn! Nobody wants to pay a wide receiver on a second contract. Even one as good as AJ Brown? https://t.co/z7P3OJPFNT

The Eagles entered tonight possibly projected to take a wide receiver at some point in the first round. Instead of drafting one, they dealt for a proven commodity.

Brown and DeVonta Smith should form a very capable 1-2 punch in what will be a critical year for Jalen Hurts, the Eagles’ third-year quarterback and incumbent starter.
