NHL Team Holds Moment Of Silence For Dwayne Haskins Before Saturday’s Game

April 9, 2022 by The Spun

Dwayne Haskins throws a pass against the Dallas Cowboys.

After the tragic passing of Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins, one of Pittsburgh’s own held a moment of silence for one of its fallen athletes.

Before face-off of the Penguins game against the Capitals Saturday, PPG Paints Arena fell silent as fans and players honored Haskins’ life.

Dwayne Haskins died early Saturday morning after reportedly being struck by a dump truck while walking on a South Florida highway. He was just 24 years old.

The QB was down in Florida training with Steelers teammates as he prepared for a chance to vie for the team’s starting job post-Ben Roethlisberger retirement.

A former 15th overall pick, Haskins starred at Ohio State before being selected by Washington Commanders in 2019.

After a couple of tough years in Landover, Haskins found himself in Pittsburgh with the opportunity to get his career back on track. Unfortunately, that was cut short this weekend.

“I am devastated and at a loss for words with the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins,” Mike Tomlin said in a statement Saturday. “He quickly became part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community. Dwayne was a great teammate, but even more so a tremendous friend to so many. I am truly heartbroken.”

It’s a tragic loss for the NFL and the sports world. But more importantly for Haskins’ family.

Our thoughts are certainly with them during this heartbreaking time.
