The Alabama Crimson Tide were the overwhelming pick for first place in the recent AP poll after their dominating win over Miami last weekend. But Nick Saban has made it clear in his latest message to the team that the work has just begun.
Speaking to the media, Saban had just five words for his players heading into Week 2 against Mercer. “You have to respect winning,” he said.
Saban has been going hard on his team and the media all week over what he’s called a lack of intensity. He went viral with a two-minute rant earlier this week complaining.
Despite Saban’s frustration though, Alabama should still have no problem taking down Mercer tomorrow. The Bears are an FCS team that just played against an NAIA team last weekend.
“You have to respect winning,” Saban said.

In Week 1, Alabama dominated Miami thanks to a record-setting performance by first-year starter Bryce Young. He threw for four touchdowns and 344 yards while completing 71-percent of his passes in a 44-13 year.
The Associated Press responded by cementing Alabama’s status as the No. 1 team in the nation. They received 59 out of 63 first place votes, but are more than 60 points ahead of No. 2 Georgia.
Nick Saban doesn’t care about any of that though. He refers to all of the media hype around his team as “rat poison” and tries to keep his players focused on the game.
We’ll see the fruits of his labors tomorrow against Mercer.
