It’s hard to imagine that last year’s Alabama team that went to the College Football Playoff National Championship and featured a Heisman winner at quarterback would be considered a “down year” for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.
But during Nick Saban’s media session ahead of Bama’s first scrimmage, the coach said that this year’s team is already better in some respects.

“This team’s been really good,” Saban explained. “This team doesn’t have any complainers; guys just do what they’re coached to do. They work hard. We don’t have a lot of negative guys on this team, and we have some real positive leadership, which I think it always important.”
“And hopefully we can build on that and that will be something that’s an asset to this team,” Saban continued. Noting, “It’s easy to start that way, it’s more difficult to sustain.”

There was a general sense last year that Alabama lacked the leadership that’s typically a pillar of a Nick Saban-coached team. And that resulted in a national championship loss to SEC rival Georgia.
With that behind them, expect Saban’s Alabama squad to bounce back in a big way come kickoff of the 2022 season.
Which is a scary, scary thought for the rest of the country.
