Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud Reacts To Dwayne Haskins’ Passing

April 16, 2022 by The Spun

Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud practicing at the spring game.

The late Dwayne Haskins was on the mind of Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud during the Buckeyes’ spring game on Saturday.

Haskins tragically passed away earlier this month. The former Ohio State star passed away after getting struck by a vehicle on a highway.

Ryan Day, Stroud and the Buckeyes paid tribute to Haskins in a number of ways during the scrimmage. Stroud, in particular, honored Haskins by wearing his jersey.

“Really nice gesture from CJ Stroud to honor Dwayne Haskins at Ohio State’s spring game today,” Albert Breer tweeted.

After the game, Stroud spoke at length about Haskins. He had nothing but good things to say.

“I definitely think Dwayne was a great human being, first and foremost,” he said, via Griffin Storm of Eleven Warriors.

That’s one point of emphasis the Ohio State community has echoed since Haskins’ passing. He was clearly a great human being and loved by those around him.

Unfortunately, there were a few inappropriate comments about Haskins after he died. Stroud said that was “sad to see” during his postgame remarks.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was one of several who made questionable comments following Haskins’ death.

Schefter noted Haskins’ struggles as an NFL quarterback in the same tweet he announced his death.

“Dwayne Haskins, a standout at Ohio State before struggling to catch on with Washington and Pittsburgh in the NFL, died this morning when he got hit by a car in South Florida, per his agent Cedrick Saunders. Haskins would have turned 25 years old on May 3,” Schefter said in a since-deleted tweet.

He later apologized.

Ohio State, meanwhile, has wrapped up spring ball. The Buckeyes will soon begin their offseason workout program in preparation of the 2022 season.
