The Baltimore Orioles have agreed to a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays for starting pitcher Shane Baz. The Orioles are sending four prospects as well as a Round A draft pick.
RHP Shane Baz logged a 10-12 record last year with a 4.87 ERA but logged an impressive September, giving up only 7 runs in 22.1 innings. Initially drafted by the Pirates in 2016, Baz was traded to the Rays organization in 2018 and spent time in the minor leagues before his debut in 2021. He is a career 4.21 pitcher with a 17-17 record.
The Orioles traded a large haul of players for Baz by sending two first round picks in Caden Bodine and Slater de Brun to the Rays. They also traded RHP Michael Forret who had been sporting a 1.58 ERA in Aberdeen and Austin Overn, a third round pick from 2024. They also traded the Rays a competitive Round A draft pick worth up to 2.5 million.
Baz figures to slot into the Orioles’ rotation immediately based on the strong September showing he had to end the season.
