Orioles Trade Mullins, Receive Gómez, Nunez, and Marsh from Mets

August 1, 2025 by Maryland Sports Blog

The Baltimore Orioles traded star center fielder Cedric Mullins to the New York Mets in a deal hours before the trade deadline Thursday evening. Mullins was a key part in the Orioles’ rebuild and was one of the last players left from the Buck Showalter era. He was a fan favorite, partially due to his inspiring story.

Mullins made his Major League debut in 2018 with the Orioles, but struggled in 2019 and was sent back down to the Double-A Bowie Baysox. He fought his way back onto Baltimore’s Opening Day roster in 2020 and has been a major part of the team since. In 2021, Mullins became the first Oriole ever to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases in one season. In 2025, Mullins hit his 100th career home run, and was the third Oriole to have 100 home runs and 100 stolen bases. Throughout his eight seasons with the Orioles, Mullins hit .250, with 101 home runs, 686 hits, and a .744 OPS. He will be sorely missed by Orioles fans and players alike.

.

The Orioles received right-handed pitchers Raimon Gómez, Chandler Marsh, and Anthony Nunez in return for Mullins.

Raimon Gómez

Gómez has been pitching at the high-Single A level for most of the 2025 season. He has gone 3-5, with a 6.95 ERA through 21 games and 22 innings. He started at the Single-A level this season, and overall in 2025 has gone 5-5 with a 4.63 ERA through 35 innings.

Chandler Marsh

Like Gómez, Marsh started with the Single-A level for the 2025 season before moving to the high-Single A Brooklyn Cyclones. His record with the Cyclones was 4-1 with a 2.53 ERA, 42.2 innings pitched, and a 0.94 WHIP. Marsh has been progressing steadily since being drafted in 2024.

Anthony Nunez

Nunez started with the high-Single A Cyclones before being moved to the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies. So far in 2025, he is 2-1 with a 1.58 ERA through 32 games and 40.0. He has given up 15 hits and has a WHIP of 0.80. Nunez seems like a promising pitcher for the Orioles’ Double-A Chesapeake Baysox.

Although fans will miss Mullins, these three pitchers are good signs for the future of the Orioles. Best of luck to Mullins on the Mets and beyond.
