Amid years of declining interest in Major League Baseball, there have been all kinds of suggestions on how to change the game. But one suggestion has baseball legend Ozzie Guillen furious.
The suggestion that TMZ Sports recently asked Guillen about was robotic umpires and automated strike zones. Guillen ripped the idea and declared that he hopes the changes happen after he dies – otherwise he’ll be very opposed to it.
“I hope [the rule change] happens after I die because I’ll be very, very vocal about it,” Guillen said. “Whoever came up with this idea never played the game. Never played Little League baseball games.”
Major League Baseball has started implementing automated strikezones into Triple-A baseball for the 2022 season. If successful, there’s no reason to believe they won’t be implemented in the majors sooner rather than later.

Ozzie Guillen may want to keep the sport of baseball pure, but for the sake of the sport’s long-term survival there may have to be changes. The World Series hasn’t been a ratings powerhouse in years and even the vaunted Red Sox-Yankees rivalry doesn’t get as much national attention as it used to.
One way or another, Major League Baseball needs to find a way to make the game more compelling. Eliminating some of the human error might help them recover.
But by that same token, the MLB stands to alienate some of their diehard fans along the way.
